We get asked this a lot. Walk into most bakeries and you'll see cakes covered in smooth, colourful fondant — sculpted into shapes, stacked into towers, designed to look incredible on Instagram. They're impressive to look at. But have you ever watched a table of guests carefully peel off the fondant and leave it on the side of their plate?

We have. And that's exactly why we don't use it.

Cakes You Actually Want to Eat

At Scannella's Kitchen, every cake is finished with buttercream and traditional finishes only. No fondant. Ever.

It's not that we can't work with fondant — it's that we believe cakes should taste as wonderful as they look. When three generations are fighting over the last slice, that's when you know you've got it right.

What Goes Into Our Cakes

Every cake is made the way Annamaria would bake for her own family. No shortcuts, no commercial tricks.

That means:

  • Free-range eggs — because quality starts with ingredients
    • Real butter — always, without exception
      • Made fresh to order — nothing pre-made, nothing sitting on a shelf. Every cake is baked as close to your event as possible, because freshness matters
    • Simple but quality ingredients — if it's not good enough for her family, it's not good enough for her customers
    • This isn't a commercial bakery, and that's the beauty of it. Everything comes from a home kitchen where the standards are personal, not industrial.

      Some bakers chase the latest trends. We honour tradition.

      The recipes behind Scannella's Kitchen weren't learned from YouTube tutorials or social media. They were passed down through generations — from Nonna to Angelina to Annamaria. Techniques refined over decades. Flavours that have stood the test of time.
